ReDecorate a Teenager’s Room Without Breaking The Bank

If you are the parent of a teenager, sooner or later the subject of redecorating what has been a child’s room will come up. Of course any good parent cares about the needs of their children at any age. The teen years are hard enough as the child is going through changes and trying to find their place in the world. One of the ways they show their personality is through their rooms. But what can a parent do when the teen wants to redecorate their room, but the money is tight? Well here are a few tips to keep everyone happy.

A teenager’s room is different from a child’s room in that it should be treated more like an adult space. But, it should have a slightly fun flair to it also. It is best if you involve your teenager in coming up with a theme that will help to express who they are (and not what you want).

Also, when redecorating your teenager’s room, let them choose the colors, but provide them with some guidance. So why not let them have a look on the internet and see what they can find?

When redecorating a teen’s room, remember that they are very sensitive to color, and they are much more free with their sense of adventure. Why not go for using a bolder color on the wall behind the bed, and in this way you have a great focal point. Plus, it will save on you having to decorate the whole room. Also, it means that you can include a color in the room that they really like and want, but which will not overpower the room completely.

Another way to redecorate your teen’s room when on a tight budget is to change the window covering. Instead of curtains, why not get them blinds instead? Because they come in so many different designs, colors and materials, there is likely to be something that they will like.

Why not get hold of a small table and turn this up into a cool make up vanity by painting it to match your teenager daughter’s bedroom décor?

Also you could get some colorful bed linens to bring all the elements of the decorating you have done together. You could even purchase extra sheets, which can be made into curtains and lampshades that will match the rest of the décor.

If you can not afford to replace a worn out carpet in your teen’s bedroom, then opt to have it taken up, and go for low maintenance painted floors with some throw rugs. Also, why not include some large cushions which they can use when their friends come round? It will provide them with a much more relaxing and friendly atmosphere for them and a place where they can get away from it all.

Rather than replacing a perfectly good bed, instead, just get a more adult like headboard for it instead.

Plus, by rearranging your teen’s furniture in their room, you will be able to give it a whole new dramatic look. Many successful teen room makeovers can quickly and easily be accomplished just by changing the layout of a room. Also, by introducing new accessories and lighting to their room, it can help to change the look of a teen’s room dramatically.

If you want to make a teen’s room look a little funkier, then pick up some fringe or beading from a clearance table at the local craft store. You can then glue this around the bottom edge of the lampshade and the hems of curtains to provide a new look. You could even glue it around the edges of shelves.

Why not keep those free CD’s that such people as AOL put in to magazines etc., and turn them over on to the reverse side and glue them to the frame of a mirror or to cover a closet door. Another great way is to glue them in an overlapping fashion and use them as a faux frame for your teen’s posters.

So, as you can see, there are many ways in which a teen’s bedroom can be redecorated and will not end up costing the parents an arm or a leg.

Come back next time for more tips, tricks and techniques to assist you in your marketing and sales efforts as you learn to live the champagne life on a beer budget. Remember we're all in this together and I'm pulling for you.

Living Well Through Better Budgeting

In these down economic times, when jobs are uncertain, businesses unstable and credit is all but impossible to obtain, one has to really be careful and watch their pennies. When one is unsure of the financial future, one needs to be aware of where their money is going. For that one needs to sit down and work out a budget.

A budget is basically a money plan, outlining your financial goals. Having a budget, you can well establish and regulate funds, set and achieve your financial objectives, and make advance decisions as to how you want your finances to function well for you.

The main idea in budgeting is for you to put aside a certain amount of money for expected as well as unexpected costs.

Simply put, budgeting means an estimation of monthly home expenses basing it on previous expenses and bills.

The initial step to take in budgeting is to find out how long will your compensation last. Define fixed expenses like car payments, home rental, insurance, etc. Likewise follow up your expenditures thoroughly for a month so you can discover and understand where your funds are going. Through proper determination of your spending patterns, you can immediately identify solutions for effective budgeting.

For instance, when you have a steady monthly income of $4,000, you should subtract all your identified monthly bills from that income.

Other bills can be assessed and then subtracted from the amount of your income. The balance that remained after fixed costs can now be your budget in the household. Rather than allocating money for miscellaneous like gas, clothing, entertainment and groceries, financial planning will allow you instead to use proportions or percentages of it.

The strategic solution in order for budgeting to be successful is inflexibility as well as flexibility; there are fixed expenses so payment must be an inflexible factor.

Budgeting will best work when very scarce omissions are made to greater limits. The idea here is to formulate goals and plans, then abide by it as much as you possibly can.

Here are tips on how to budget:

1. Have good sense of money management. Your attitude is essential. Reach an agreement and compromise and know the significance of reducing expenditures; it all involves a lot of sacrifice.

2. Plan your situation. Make a listing with your earnings to one side and your overheads on the other side.

3. Know the difference between luxuries and necessities. List down what you believe as luxuries, with it, split the list in half, crossing out half the list.

4. Practice frugality but with dignity. You can have fun with little or without spending at all. Rather than going shopping, play with the kids at the beach or at the park.

Budgeting is an effective and fundamental tool that is readily available to everyone. Consider it, and benefit from it.

One can still live very well without spending a lot of money if you are smart about it.

Come back next time for more tips. Tricks and techniques to assist you in Living the Champagne Life on a Beer Budget.

Remember we're all in this together and I'm pulling for you.

Plan Your vacation and Save Money While Having Fun

Ah Spring time is here and many of us are already looking forward to summer and the vacation season. In these tough economic times everyone is looking for ways to save money without sacrificing fun and adventure. It is easy to do with the proper prior planning.

Planning is the key to success when it comes to getting a budget holiday. There are many things that you can influence such as when you book, how you travel, whether you go package or build your own agenda. All of these things can have a significant impact on the price you pay. Above all, each of these things are within your control!

Most people know exactly when they are intending to take a vacation. This can be used to your advantage when it comes to planning.

Deciding on when to book is a bit of a gamble. Whilst many tour operators will offer cheaper prices and early booking discounts, you may find that last minute deals are also available which will prove better financially.

There are many factors that you should take into account when deciding on when to book for maximum financial gain:

Are you flexible in terms of dates that you are prepared to travel?
Are you flexible in terms of destinations that you are prepared to travel to?
Will you be buying a package deal or will you be building your own package?
Are you considering a popular destination where many tour operators or flight companies travel?

Firstly, if you are flexible in terms of location and dates then you will almost certainly benefit from waiting until the last minute to book your holiday. Last minute deals are, of course, something that you cannot rely upon and if you are set on going to a certain destination at a certain date then last minute is far too risky.

If you are planning on creating your own package then you need to be aware that you are taking multiple gambles. For example, you need to consider your airfare, hotels and transport. Whilst you may get an excellent last minute flight, you may not be so lucky when it comes to the hotel or car hire. In fact, you may find that paying a premium for other parts of your holiday will end up out-weighing any last minute savings you have made.

As a general rule, if you are looking to go on a specific holiday, a cruise, for example, with a specific company or a destination that is only offered by a few operators, you may find that last minute bargains are simply not available. Cruising is a classic example of this. A cruise line will offer holidays for a certain price, whilst they may offer their holidays through different agents who may individually offer discounts, the actual price of the cruise is likely to remain very similar no matter who you go to for your price.

Come back next time for more tips. Tricks and techniques to assist you in Living the Champagne Life on a Beer Budget. Remember we're all in this together and I'm pulling for you.

Inquisitive Explorer's Guide To Better Budgeting

The talking heads from the financial media are telling us the economy is improving. However we all know that on the street level things are still a bit tight. Poor Rens Tips To Decorating Your Dining Room

You are dissatisfied and bored with the look of your dining room. Sure it worked back in 1995, but today is different and you really want a change. However in today's economy things are a bit tight, so what do you do? Well there are a number of different ways for decorating a dining room to give it a whole new lease on life, without breaking the bank. Try these tips:

1.Why not cover the table with some fabric in order to hide any ugly surfaces? You could then use the colors in the fabric as the basis for the new décor for the room.

2.The use of inexpensive accessories will help to change the whole appearance of your dining room. Get some candles and candleholders in order to provide a different look and feel to your room.

3.Why not make a wall hanging for the room. If you can, purchase some Chinese posters (these are inexpensive) as they are easy to turn into wall hangings.

4.Why not see if where you live has a furniture bank. This is where you can arrange to drop off any old pieces of furniture that you have and no longer want. Then all you need to do is choose a piece from what they have there to replace the piece you have donated. You may find the ideal dining table and chairs that you want for the theme of your room.

5.The rule of three. Instead of placing items together as even numbered groups, do it in odd numbered groups instead. Where 2 candlesticks together look symmetrical, by adding a bowl or another smaller candlestick holder, you will give the element of surprise. Plus, by mixing colors and textures in order to form groups of three in a room, it will provide you with a whole new look also.

6.As previously mentioned, when looking to redecorate your living room, move the furniture. You can also do this in your dining room. Instead of the table being horizontal to the walls, why not place it in the room at an angle (but make sure you have enough space to walk round it). Also, move any cupboards etc., away from walls, and instead place these in corners of the room at angles. By doing this, you are giving your dining room a whole new look.

7.Why not build and attach a fold down shelf to one of your dining room walls? It will certainly make it easier for you when entertaining, and can be used as a buffet area also.

8.How about giving your dining room cabinets a new lease on life and paint them to accentuate the color of the room? Check at your local paint supply store or DIY store, as well as online for advice on how to paint unusual surfaces.

9.Use a mirror in order to create light and space in your dining room. Frame one in such a way that it creates a mock window. You could even use one by placing it behind some artistic belongings in order to highlight them from all sides.

10.If your dining room chairs are looking a little tired and dated, then cover them with slipcovers…why not try making some covers yourself? Why not purchase another tablecloth or two that matches the one you use for your table, and upholster them in this as well?

11.Finally, why not repaint the room? You do not need to do the whole room, just paint one or two walls with an accent color. Maybe go for a color which will accent all the various aspects of the room, and integrates well with any soft furnishings that you have.

Just because money is tight doesn't mean your style has to suffer. Remember we're all in this together and I'm pulling for you.

Decorate Your Kitchen without Breaking The Bank

Decorate Your Kitchen without Breaking The Bank

For many people, the thought of redecorating their kitchen can be frightening. They start thinking that they need to replace everything in order to get a whole new look. But this they do not need to do, by just following a few or all of the tips provided below, you should be able to create something new for next to nothing.

1. Instead of replacing the cabinets in your kitchen, why not repaint them? There are many techniques around which are easy to learn and will provide your cabinets with an expensive designer look. Such techniques as crackling, faux finishing and glazing are not only simple to do, but will save you money. If you need help on looking for ways to up date old and tired kitchen cabinets, then take a look on the internet.

2. Provide your kitchen walls with a new lick of paint. By painting your walls in warm and inviting colors, you will make the room even more of the hub of the home. Plus, if you have good quality wooden cabinets, a new coat of paint will help the wood to appear richer.

3. Why not spend a little of your budget on purchasing some new hand towels and potholders that will match the color of your new décor?

4. Another simple and easy tip for redecorating your kitchen, and will cost you nothing, is to get beautiful dishes and glassware out of the cupboards, and use them to accentuate the kitchen.

5. But a great way of changing the whole décor of your kitchen is by putting up new curtains. You could try this first before you do anything else. They will help to create a fresh new look to your kitchen, and they certainly will not break the bank. Plus, you may well find that just making this one change will give your kitchen a completely different look. By changing your curtains, you could actually bring out the personality of the kitchen with little or no effort on your part.

6. Why not use fabric in your kitchen? If you have appliances that you wish to hide, then using a fabric is a cheap and cost effective way of doing this. Just get some material that co-ordinates with the décor of your kitchen, and some wire and hooks, and then just place the fabric in front of the appliance. Hey, presto, it’s covered up, and the fabric provides a new dimension to your room. Plus, if it should get dirty, all you need to do is take it off and put it in the washing machine and wash it.

7. Why not consider replacing the cabinet doors. There are many companies around which provided many different designs, colors and shapes of kitchen cabinet doors. This is a much more cost effective way of giving your kitchen a whole new look without actually having to replace the whole cabinet.

8. Also why not just replace the ironmongery on your cabinet doors, and get new handles? Just by doing this you will be giving your kitchen a whole new look.

9. One other affordable way of making your kitchen look different is by adding a kitchen island. They not only provide you with more counter space, but they provide a place where people can gather. However, for those of us on a budget, instead of getting a permanent one, why not instead consider getting a kitchen cart? Because they are on wheels, when not being used they can be put away, and so leave you with room in your kitchen.

10. Finally, if your kitchen redecorating budget is so small that you would be unable to do any of the above. Then why not think about replacing the backsplash instead. Just by doing this, you can really dress up that drab and dull kitchen that you have. The great thing about backsplashes is that they now come in a variety of different colors and materials, as well as styles. But how much you spend on this will depend on what material you select for it.

So as you can see, redecorating your kitchen on a budget can be as simple as just giving the walls anew coat of paint, or changing the existing hardware or doors on your cabinets. But just by making one small change to your kitchen you can give it a whole new look

Living Room Decorating on a Budget

In today's economy fixing up one's house can be rather expensive. However one still likes to change things up once in a while just to keep life exciting. One of the ways to spice up your home life is to redecorate the interior of your house.

There are a number of different ways to provide a new look to your living room. It may be that you are just starting out in a new home, or that you would like to revive an old tired space, but decorating any room, and especially the living room, can be a real challenge. It can be even more of a challenge when you only have small budget to work with.

But the biggest hurdle that we face is how to get a look that expresses our unique personality, without spending a fortune. However, by looking at the items you already have in a different way, you should be able to create a cozy family room for almost next to nothing. Below are provided a number of decorating tips which should help to turn a drab living room into a warm and friendly place for everybody to gather.

1. Paint

Paint one wall using your favorite color, and so make this the focal point of the room. Then hang a piece of interesting art on the wall (it could even be something you have made yourself). Next, place a nice piece of furniture on that side of the room to provide even more accent to the wall. If you want to add extra impact to the wall, then why not use a rubber stamping technique? Although it is extremely easy to do, rubber stamping can look very impressive when finished.

2. Use an Area Rug

This is a great way to define a conversation area and look for one which will complement the décor of the room. Rather than lying it straight, put it at an angle underneath your coffee table (if you have one). Or if not, then just place it in a central location where the seating is situated. Why not add some large cushions as well?

3. Pictures & Mirrors

Hang those which most reflect your personality. If you are able to, try frames that are more ornate. Plus, when hanging a mirror, place it in a position where it will reflect either a nice view, or an interesting architectural element of the room. Including a mirror in a room also creates the illusion of more space in a room because of the light reflecting off it.

4. Lighting

Replace lamps, as these are one thing that will provide clues to your room being outdated. If you are unable to replace the whole lamp, then just consider replacing the lampshade instead.

5. Coffee Table

If your coffee table is looking tired or scratched, then cover it with a small decorative throw rug. Or if you want to be a bit more adventurous, then why not consider tiling the top of it with mosaic tiles or colored glass instead?

6. Rearrange the Furniture

But do not think square; instead, put your furniture at an angle. By doing this you are giving a whole new look to the layout of your room, and is much more inexpensive than going out and buying new furniture.

Also pay attention to the floor space that you have left and use it. You could actually get some scatter cushions and use these as additional seating. It will provide your living room with a much more relaxed atmosphere.

7. Plants

Use plants to add freshness and impact to the décor of your room, and if placed strategically, will hide any ugly flaws in a room.

Finally, if you do not need it, then remove it. You can either donate it to your local charity, or ask a family member or friend if they could use it. By de-cluttering a space, you will not only be providing yourself with more room, but you will also be gaining a whole new look.

Come back next week for more tips, tricks and techniques on living the champagne life on a beer budget. Remember, we're all in this together and I'm pulling for you.

Using Budgeting Tools

Using Budgeting Tools

In these tough economic times one needs to spend wisely. The best way to do so is to make a budget and stick to it. Budgeting your monthly expenses in order to get the greatest return on your income (and perhaps, even put aside some for saving!) doesn’t have to be extremely hard.

Various budgeting programs are available for use. Money management programs provide you with a usual package that allows you to enter your cash inflows and outflows, categorizes your expenditures, and at times, presents to you analysis of your spending behavior. Through these programs you can also input the various payments you have to make monthly, and subsequently track if you’ve paid your dues on time. Moreover, some programs also offer you a tax form draft that will help you make sure you’re not missing out on any dues or any deductibles, for that matter.

Another budgeting tool that you can utilize are coupons. Various stores and magazines contain coupons that you can use to get discounts on various products. Should there be a need to purchase a particular product for which you have a coupon for, you will end up saving a fraction of what you might have had to spend on a regular purchase.

Lists—whether on a piece of paper, on your cellular phone, or on your personal digital assistant (PDA) will help you keep focused on what you have to buy, and in effect, keep track of the purchases you make. A classic example is your regular grocery trip. Prior to making the trip, plan out the week’s entire menu and identify what food items and materials you need to purchase that are unavailable in your pantry. Then, make a list of other household items that you’ve run out of (or are eventually going to run out of before you can make the next trip to the grocery). Armed with these lists, you can go to the grocery and know exactly where to go and what you’re going to buy. Without these lists, you will walk idly along aisles, and will likely pick up various food items that you won’t likely need in the immediate future, or already have at home.

A filing system is perhaps one of the best budgeting tools you can have in your home. With simple, labeled file folders, you can put together your bills, your receipts, and whatever bank documents are issued to you when you save or pay. By putting together your bills, your credit card receipts, and the like, you are able to keep track of how much you owe and when your payments are due.

Effective budgeting tools are those that best address your needs as a consumer. Create your own budgeting tool or find a program, or a book, (I just happen to have one handy) or some other resource to do it for you—just make sure it suits your lifestyle.

Holiday Money Saving Ideas

With the hype that holidays usually bring, people always have the tendency to buy more and spend more without taking into account the consequences that their actions can bring.

Hence, it does not necessarily mean that because it is the holidays you have all the reason in this world to buy whatever you want and spend how much you want. Some people contend that it’s just once a year, so better give what you have. However there are smart ways to spend and still enjoy the fun of gift giving.

The problem is that giving something just for the spirit of the holidays does not mean you have to spend gold. You can still give something that will be deeply appreciated without having to spend more money.

Here’s how:

1. Make a budget and stick to it

The problem with most people is that they find making a budget relatively easy but sticking to it is doubly hard. So what’s the point of making a budget when you do not know how to conform to what you have stated in there?

Making and using your budget should always go hand in hand. Therefore, when you make your budget this holiday season, it is best that you follow the things that are written in it so that you would be able to save more money.

2. Live within your means

Of course, everybody would want to give gifts because that is what the holiday season calls for. However, it does not necessarily mean that you have to spend more than what you can afford.

The trick to saving more money is to always live within your means. Spending more than what you can afford will definitely bring more problems than you can afford to solve.

3. Personalize it!

As they say, it is the thought that counts. Hence, there are no better ways to show how much you have thought of those people this holiday season than making personalized gifts.

4. Shop and compare

It really pays to shop around and doubly better when you compare prices. You will never know which items are better priced than the others are when you do not compare their values.

The point here is that you should not be confined to one shopping portal. Try to look for other items, usually in thrift stores and consignment shops, where you can find the best items at a lower price.

Indeed, shopping for the holidays can be fun, but you don’t have to be spendthrift. Nowadays, you really just have to be practical.

Get Through This Crisis With Common Sense Budgeting!

Get Through This Crisis With Common Sense Budgeting!

The first step in getting your finances under control is to Avoid Spending Pitfalls!

With all the advantages that are evident from personal budgeting, it is no wonder that more and more people are relying on them to reduce debts and increase their savings. However, all ‘budgeters’ need to be careful to avoid some common pitfalls that appear often.

Credit cards may seem like small pieces of plastic, however they can cause a great deal of trouble for the owners. It is common for people to make unwise purchases, which they would have avoided otherwise, because they had the credit card in their wallet. The best solution for many people is simply to get rid of credit cards and begin paying only by cash, check, or debit cards. You may want to keep one card handy for emergencies, but it is probably best to keep it out of reach, and far away from your wallet.

Another problem with budgeting is impatience. There are financial goals set, but people do not have the patience to complete a savings program. For instance, an individual begins setting aside money for a new car; however, after a few months they discover the car of their dreams. Rather than waiting, they make the purchase. This could pose some serious financial strains. Discipline is a must to prevent impatience from breaking your budget.

Once a person makes a budget, they often fail to adjust it when necessary. A budget is created using a set of expenses and income figures that are liable to change. As these figures do change, it is important that the budget changes to reflect the adjustments. There could be some major deficits if this is not done appropriately and promptly.
Of course nobody forgets about Christmas or Hanukkah, however many people do not consider budgeting for holidays when creating a budget. Therefore, adequate funds have not been set aside for presents, food, parties, etc. These items should be factored in and saved for throughout the year.

Finally, many people factor in transportation and accommodations for vacations in their budget, however they underestimate money needed for food, entertainment, and spending money. Keep in mind that all the resorts and tourists areas are double or triple what you would normally pay.

With a little planning, you’ll be on your way to saving more money than you ever thought possible!

Surviving Tough Times - Create and Maintain a Budget

Tough times are here again, and as usual a lot of people are screaming that the “government” or “Big business” screwed them over. Nonsense, the problem lies in individual responsibility. The problem is too many people think that good times are always gong to last, and when trouble hits they are devastated. However there are a lot of people that are still enjoying life, even in bad times. How do they do it? Easy, they just make a budget and stick to it, no matter what the economy is doing. How do they do it, and if you aren't one of them how can you join them? Well here's a few tips to help you get started.

The first step to avoiding the troubles of financial debt is to create and maintain a budget. It’s not as intimidating as it sounds, don’t worry.

First off, create a list of all your monthly income and also a list of your monthly expenses. When determining income, list all sources including alimony, child support, side jobs, etc. In calculating expenses, be sure to include housing, food, transportation, utilities, entertainment, etc. To gain an accurate reflection of actual expenses, sit down each night and write down expenses, just make sure to save receipts. Determine if your income covers all of your expenses. If the answer is no, then some expenses need to be reduced.

Adjust expenses. If it is a small discrepancy, it may mean reducing some minor expenses like entertainment or cell phone plan. If the deficit is larger, you may need to downsize your vehicle or living arrangements. If your income covers all of your expenses, you still may want to trim some of the excess fat off your spending habits. This can free up extra money for things such as vacations or college funds for your children.

Additionally, consider if you need to add new categories. Some areas that are often overlooked are debt reduction, emergency savings funds, and retirement savings. An emergency fund ensures there is an adequate amount available to cover unforeseen events (car emergency, etc), should it arise. This will eliminate the need for using credit which can quickly damage your budget.

There are several advantages to sticking to your budget. Firstly, most people have set financial goals that they would like to reach in the future. Sometimes it may be a trip, a brand new car, or a college education. A budget can help people save money to make these goals a reality. Additionally, many people are crushed under heavy consumer debt. Without a disciplined pattern of spending, it is virtually impossible to make much headway in reducing debt. A personal budget will provide the necessary framework to begin eliminating these inflated account balances.

If executed properly, a budget will allow a person to simultaneously meet their expenses, place money into savings, and pay back outstanding debts. Therefore, it is anyone’s best interest to create and implement a budget.

Cut Back on Spending

One of the first steps to take when developing your budget is to control your spending.

At first it may seem difficult to limit spending and stick to a budget, however there are a few practical changes that you can make everyday that will cut your spending more than you expect.

Firstly, alter credit card behavior. Start to pay cash whenever possible. This will help you avoid making a purchase unless you actually have the money available. If you decide to make a credit card purchase, be prepared to pay the balance off monthly. This will save a lot of money through avoiding interest charges. If you already have a credit card balance, then transfer to a card with a low interest rate. Also, find a card that does not charge an annual fee.

Another tip is to pack your lunch everyday. All of those lunch hours spent at restaurants will add up. Bringing your own lunch can save you several dollars every day, which will add up over time.

Use your cell phone during off peak hours. Some people will spend a couple hundred dollars a month on phone charges. Avoid this by making most calls during off peak times. Check with your service and plan to find out when you have cheaper or unlimited calls.

Stop throwing away the Sunday newspaper before skimming through the advertisements. Clip some of those coupons and check out the sales. This may seem tedious, but the savings are often worth it. Many stores will double or triple the amount of the coupon. This technique can save you up to 20 or 30 dollars each time you head to the food store.

Additionally, refinance. Mortgage rates have been extremely low over the past year. This has been a great opportunity to reduce the monthly house payment significantly. If you are planning to have your house paid off prior to retirement, then you may want to factor this in before refinancing.

Finally, bundle your insurance. Many insurance companies will offer their customers lower rates if they purchase multiple policies. For instance, some people use the same agent for multiple cars, and others combine their cars and house. Always keep in mind that a dollar here and there really begins to add up. Avoid the temptation of thinking that changing your spending habits wouldn’t save that much money.

Put these ideas into action and you will see a difference right away. Keep it up and you will find that most of what you thought was necessary was actually waste. On the plus side you will have money for those times when you really want to do something special.

64 WAYS TO MAKE YOUR CAR LAST LONGER

In down time we all have to look for ways to stretch our money and make ends meet. One of the biggest expenses people have is fixing their cars. Here are things to do to save money, time and energy so that your car lasts longer and runs at peak efficiency. Oh yea these things also have a big impact on your fuel mileage as well.

Every 2 weeks or 3,000 miles:

1. Check engine oil, transmission fluid and coolant.

Once a month or 1,000 miles:

2. Check tire pressure - with tire gauge.

3. Check transmission fluid.

4. Check brake fluid.

5. Wax car (to protect finish).

6. Check belts and hoses.

Every 3 months or 3,000 miles:

7. Change oil and oil filter (every 6 months or 3,000 miles).

8. Lubricate chassis.

9. Check transmission fluid.

10. Check all drive belts (fan belts) frayed or cracked belts.

Every 6 months or 6,000 miles:

11. Change oil and filter (every 6 months or 3,000 miles).

12. Inspect suspension.

13. Rotate tires.

Every 12 months or 12,000 miles:

14. Flush radiator, replace anti-freeze, check air conditioning
system.

15. Replace air filters.

16. Lubricate chassis.

Every 2 years or 24,000 miles.

17. Replace spark plugs (30,000 miles average suggested for
unleaded gas) and PC valve.

18. Change automatic transmission fluid, filter and pan gasket.

19. Inspect brake linings.

Every 3 years or 30,000 miles:

20. Check and test ignition wires (replace if needed).

21. Test cooling system and heating hoses (replace if needed).

22. Check drive belts (replace if needed).

23. Replace fluid in differential and manual transmission.

Every 50,000 miles.

24. Check brake shoes (replace if needed)

25. If you have a major repair to do, it's wise to get at least 3 estimates, if possible, before you decide.

26. Read and follow your car owner's manual - it's your car's bible for making your car last longer.

27. Whether you are a man, woman, boy or girl, learn to do some routine maintenance on your car yourself. A multitude of books, videos, magazines and classes are available at your local
library that will teach you for free if you don't know. Learn how to check your own oil, transmission fluid, tire pressure and coolant, etc.

28. If you find a good mechanic who you can trust, stick with him even if his prices are a bit higher - all things being equal. You'll always save time, money and aggravation in the long run.

29. Don't race or gun your engine when you start it up. Accelerate slowly and smoothly when your engine is cold.

30. Avoid burning rubber - it places excessive wear on the transmission, rear end, not to mention your tires.

31. An international tire company estimated that 33% of all tires on the road are under-inflated (low air). Under-inflated tires wear out quicker and have a tendency to blow out easier.

32. A garaged car lasts longer. A car port is next best, and a car cover is a distant third.

33. Avoid jackrabbit starts and stops. Stop and accelerate gradually.

34. Avoid tailgating, tire squealing turns, flying over speed bumps, pot holes and revving your engine.

35. When possible, avoid driving your car during rush hour stop and go traffic periods.

36. Keep front-end aligned, for longer tire life and better gas mileage.
37. Make sure you get promised repairs in writing including how much it will cost.

38. Avoid car dealers except to have highly specialized repairs done that can't be done properly anywhere else.

39. It's hard to be overcharged when you get three estimates before you have the work done.

40. Beware: Cheapest is not always the best. Normally, the best mechanics with the best equipment and training cost more.

41. Often mechanics that charge extremely low prices have inferior
or out-dated equipment, little to no formal training or are under-insured.

42. Complex electrical problems are so involved that serious electrical work should be done in an "Auto Electric" shop. They have the equipment, tool and training to do the job more efficiently than the average mechanic.

43. If your car has "Cruise Control" use it. Using cruise control will save you 5% to 10% of a gallon of gas on long trips.

44. Avoid constantly pressing and releasing the accelerator when driving. This practice not only wastes fuel, but it puts excessive wear on the drive train of your car.

45. Don't ride your brake pedal, this wears out your brake linings pre-maturely, and wastes fuel.

46. Driving with your windows all the way down at higher speeds, will waste 10% more gallons of gasoline than driving with them closed.

47. Research by a major car manufacturer has revealed that neglect of proper routine maintenance is the number one reason for the enormous increase in car repairs being required.

48. Tires purchased at department stores such as Sears, Wal-Mart, K-Mart etc., can be an excellent value because many are made by leading tire manufacturers. For a list of what manufacturer makes which tires for what department store, write to: Tire Information Center, P.O. Box 677, Syosset, NY 11791

49. When purchasing or changing tires, make sure you have them spin balanced.

50. Avoid cleaning your windshield with a dry rag or towel. Always dampen with water or some other cleaning liquid. Dry towels grind and scratch your windshield hindering your visibility.

51. Avoid turning on the car air-conditioning while running at highway speeds as this tends to put an immediate heavy load on your compressor and clutch. This could cause excessive wear and tear on these components. Instead turn your air conditioner on at car speeds below 25 to 30 m.p.h. This helps to preserve your expensive compressor.

52. Try to avoid running your car with the tank low on gas. Keeping a low tank of gas increases the chance of dirt, water/moisture and rust forming in your fuel system. Keeping a full tank decreases the chance of dirt and other foreign matter forming in your fuel system.
53. Tires driven at 70 m.p.h. wear out almost twice as fast as cars that go 50 m.p.h.

54. A government study has confirmed, the top three causes of car breakdowns while on the road are: (a) running out of gas (b) tire troubles (c) cooling system problems (overheating)

55. The best as well as the easiest ways to find a good car repair shop is by recommendation or referrals from satisfied customers.

56. To work on a late model computer-controlled engines, make sure the shop you choose has the equipment to handle computer-electric service/repair. Sophisticated diagnostic equipment is a must.

57. To choose the right repair shop for you, it's wise to have a small or minor maintenance or repair job done first to see how the repair shop and mechanic treat you and your car.

58. Give detailed description of your car's problem when you take it in for repairs. The more you can describe what your car is doing or not doing (thumping, squealing, clacking sound, etc.) the faster and less it will cost for your mechanic to fix it.

59. When in doubt about the cost of a repair or a mechanic's honesty get a second opinion. This is one of the best ways to protect yourself from being ripped-off until you can find a permanent repair shop.

60. Regular oil changes are the most important thing you can do to protect your engine and make it last longer.

61. If you have a manual transmission, down shift to slow your car down instead of using your brakes. This will save wear and tear on your braking system.

62. Each time you have your engine oil checked, have your transmission fluid checked also.

63. Protect your car's interior and make it last longer - park your car in the shade or place a windshield guard or cover in the windshield.

64. If you spill something inside your car, clean it up immediately before it dries. Delaying even 30 minutes can sometimes leave a permanent stain or spot. NOTE: To better protect your car seats have them treated with scotchguard.

NOTE: According to current auto insurance statistics, the average U.S. car's useful life is 10 years or 100,000 miles. By following proper preventative maintenance you can often double your car's useful life, and spend less time visiting your local mechanic.

Here you go, save money and enjoy your life better by spending less time with a broken down auto.

How To Properly Use Debt Reduction Consolidation Services

Whether it be for education, for our first house, or for repairs, we all incur a heavy debt load from loans at some point in our lives. This debt needs to be repaid and that’s when we collect information on the best possible deal, which will ultimately burden us the least.

Debt reduction services provide detailed counseling on debt management and credit education. These services aim at teaching people how to attain and maintain a debt free life. This is done by suggesting which debt programs to go for or when and what is the smartest way to take a loan and what repayment structure a given consumer should follow.

Bear in mind that people providing this help are not the sales department; they are financial professionals. Their debt reduction techniques are much more aggressive than any other and are completely different than debt consolidation strategies.

Bankruptcy chapter 7 and debt settlement are two major ways to eliminate debts. This ensures debt reduction in overall amount as well as quick repayment. In bankruptcy, you plead to the judge to supervise the liquidation of your left over assets to repay creditors.

Most of the times, the bankrupt party is left with nothing but exempt property, which leaves nothing for creditors to recover. Hence, the amount of payments, the date, and time is up to the judge. He will also dispense of the bankrupt party's belongings.

However, it is important to note that chapter seven is only possible under strict conditions. There is a good chance you may be ineligible. If you are, you should consider debt settlement.

Debt settlement on the other hand has been around for a while. The mission is to consolidate the debt amount altogether by 40% or more, reducing the principle amount by 40%, which means you pay only 60%. Consolidation services can save you up to 30%-45% of what you owe, but it can’t exceed the three-year limit.

Make it a top priority to eradicate your unsecured debt as well, when you opt for consumer credit counseling. Get rid of your debt today by signing with the right debt company.

Another Election Year Another Recession

The Business press are all agog over the fact that we might be heading for a Recession in the economy. Well DUH! If they bother to pay attention to their own records they will see that after every Multi-Term Presidency we tend to have recessions. It is part of the Business Cycle, and yes that is probably why it is called a “Cycle” rather than a line.

Lets face it it happened in 2000-01, 1992-93, 1975-76 and so forth and back all the way to the beginning of the country. It is an historical fact that one can look up for themselves (if they weren't so lazy). How does this happen? Why does this happen?

The main cause of this, if anyone really pays attention, is that the current President cannot run for another term, being limited to two four year terms by the Constitution, and the business community and investors start getting jittery over who will take over running the country. The whole economic philosophy can change depending upon who wins the election (that is why when a sitting VP that has a similar philosophy to the outgoing President gets elected, the cycle is delayed until they themselves leave office).

If there is a change of party then of course the whole economic scenarios change (albeit rather small) and therefore different types of investments are needed to survive in the different environments. Of course it also depends upon the personality and policies of the new President, as some Republicans act like Democrats and vice-versa.

Of course who is running Congress can have a major effect, and usually if the same party runs Congress as the White House, we are guaranteed to have a Recession, that is why Mid-term Elections usually see a change in Congressional make up.

This is good for the country as we depend upon the Checks and Balances between the different branches for our own well being and civil liberties. Regardless of what the immature sour-grapes , namby-pamby naysayers (on the left and right) are whining and crying about, no opposition politician has been assassinated, jailed, or otherwise in the last 8 years, so our basic liberties are still intact.

So what can we do if we know trouble is coming? Well prepare for it and survive the stormy seas.

Well the most important thing to do is to make out and stick to a budget.

See what you can live without as far as unnecessary items are concerned. Put something away for emergencies and planned big expenses (vacations, graduations, weddings, etc). Make sure all bills are as up to date as you can make them and pay off all that you can. This way you don't have debt hanging over your head and you can have a bit more financial freedom.

Maybe a change in your shopping habits can help as well. Buy some of the store brands when doing your grocery shopping. They are not as much of a fall-off as you think, and the quality is the same (in fact due to the government inspections etc. they have to maintain a certain level of quality before they can be put on shelves). Another thing would be eating less Red Meat and more fruits, vegetables and poultry. Not only will you cut down on your grocery bills, but also be healthier for it to boot. Talk about a Win-Win situation!

Now I know what it is like to be a “victim” of “downsizing”, rightsizing” or what ever the moronic newsreaders are using as a euphemism for a layoffs, so I know how traumatic it can be. Especially when the business folds or the office you are working in closes up. It is harsh and somewhat degrading to go through and collect unemployment for a while. But take the time to learn new skills, or at least brush off the rust of old ones you haven't used in a while. Most of all do not despair nor panic. If you were smart and prepared you will come out all right. If not, then pull yourself up by the proverbial bootstraps and get moving, vowing to never be unprepared again.

A recession is coming but it doesn't have to be a catastrophe if you are prepared for it and act in an intelligent manner. Take control of your finances and they won't control you.

Mahalo.
