Tricks that Can Make You Rich In The New Year

Tricks that Can Make You Rich In The New Year

Saving has always been a way of life for people who believed on its power. These people know that they have to save more money in order to create a more established future.

However, as time goes by, more and more people find it hard to save money. They contend that saving is no longer a way of life but a resolution that they have to strictly adhere to just to salt away some amount of money.

Some people even insist that it is no longer possible for a person to save more money because most of them are already living paycheck to paycheck. With all the high-prices of commodities these days, saving more money is no longer workable.

But the point is that people can indeed save more.

How? Here is a list of some modern ways that will let you save more money:

1. Save some percentage from your salary

Most money-savers automatically take at least 30% from their salary and save them into their savings account. The basic concept here is that most of us spend whatever amount we have on our paycheck, and maybe even more. If you are able to limit that amount, your expenses will unexplainably get smaller.

2. Pay everything in cash

Credit cards had always been a way of life for most consumers. The problem is that they become so comfortable with it that they tend to spend everything on credit. In fact, statistics show that the average family has an average outstanding balance on their credit cards amounting to $7,000. And they even pay almost $1,000 in each year just on the interest charges alone.

Hence, because of this comfortable shopping, they forget to keep track of their expenses and accumulate more payables than what they can afford to pay.

3. Set goals

Create goals that you really want and not be fickle-minded about it. If there’s a certain amount involved, be specific with the amount, like saying “I will save $5,000 in a year and not around $5,000.”

Try to set your goals based on your priorities. Have a period for every goal.

4. Check your company’s retirement plan

With your employer plan such as the 401(k) or the 403(b), you can definitely save more money for the future. Here, your company will deduct a percentage of your salary from each paycheck and invest the amount in your choice of instruments mainly mutual funds. Sure the market may be down at the present time, but over the long run the trend is upwards and you will be fine if you don't panic.

The bottom line is that saving is not just a way of life or a resolution. It’s the ultimate gratification that you get as a fruit of your labor. Keeping a budget is important and the trick is to keep at it and live the life your way.

Happy New Year!

Mahalo.

Life After Credit Card Debt

Life After Credit Card Debt

Yes it is that time of year again where people tend to overspend either to impress family and friends, or to overcome some deep seated guilt. These people tend to get into most trouble with their credit cards going into massive debt.

Credit card debt is a very big problem that is being faced by a lot of people who have been irresponsible and undisciplined in the use of their credit card. Though some might have landed up with credit card debt due to some unfortunate event/emergency in their life, most people carry a credit card debt due to their own wrong doings (i.e. wrong usage of their credit card debt). There are a lot of ways to pay off credit card debt and a lot of people do achieve this feat (i.e. are able to pay off credit card debt). Surely, to be able to pay off credit card debt is really a great achievement in itself for not everyone is able to pay off credit card debt. It takes a lot of discipline, restraint, planning and perseverance to finally pay off credit card debt. However, there is more to paying off credit card debt then just being able to pay off credit card debt.

Here we are talking about the life after you pay off credit card debt successfully. As mentioned before, of all the people that try to pay off credit card debt not everyone is able to pay off credit card debt i.e. there are some failures too. However, some people fail after they have succeeded in paying off credit card debt. These are those people who let themselves loose and go on a spending spree as soon as they pay off credit card debt. Soon, these people again land up with a credit card debt and are again trying to pay off credit card debt. So, it’s not enough to just pay off credit card debt, it’s equally important to maintain a debt-free status even after you pay off credit card debt; only then can you enjoy a stress-free life in the world of credit cards. So learn your lessons well and do not let yourself loose on the path to another credit card debt. Most of the rules that you followed when you were trying to pay off credit card debt, will also hold good after you have paid off your credit card debt. Here is a quick synopsis of things that you should take care of even after you pay off credit card debt:

1) Do not overspend. Yielding to the sale offers for something that you don’t really need, is a big mistake that leads to overspending
2) Always remain within 70% of your credit limit.
3) Make credit card bill payments in time and in full.
4) Don’t hold more than 2 credit card accounts (two are enough for anyone)

These are just very basic things; you can add more based on your own experience and knowledge. Remember the most important thing is to make a budget and stick to it faithfully.

Come back next week for more tips, techniques and tricks to help you live that champagne life on a beer budget. We're all in this together and I'm pulling for you.

Impulse Spending – Nemesis of the Wise Shopper

Impulse Spending – Nemesis of the Wise Shopper

The Holiday season is upon us and time again for all those guilt shopping trips. It happens all the time, here we are trying to figure out what to buy for our family and friends, and we feel guilty if we don't overspend.

The biggest problem is when we are just browsing for those “Stocking Stuffers” , and we start picking up this, and that , and those and..... until we have gone way over budget and find ourselves back into the debt cycle we pledged not to repeat from years past.

The secret is to make a list and stick to it. Just like grocery shopping. If you make a list before hand and figure out how much you want to spend per person, then it is easy to stick with the budget you set for yourself. Sticking to the list and budget will allow you to not do any impulse spending, and you won't have the overspending problem you had last year.

If you are not sure if you are an impulse shopper or not here are a few clues:

Answer these questions truthfully:

1.)Does your spouse or partner complain that you spend too much money?

2.)Are you surprised each month when your credit card bill arrives at how much more you charged than you thought you had?

3.)Do you have more shoes and clothes in your closet than you could ever possibly wear?

4.)Do you own every new gadget before it has time to collect dust on a retailer’s shelf?

5.)Do you buy things you didn’t know you wanted until you saw them on display in a store?

If you answered “yes” to any two of the above questions, you are an impulse spender and indulge yourself in retail therapy.

This is not a good thing. It will prevent you from saving for the important things like a house, a new car, a vacation or retirement. You must set some financial goals and resist spending money on items that really don’t matter in the long run.

Impulse spending will not only put a strain on your finances but your relationships, as well. To overcome the problem, the first thing to do is learn to separate your needs from your wants.

Advertisers blitz us hawking their products at us 24/7. The trick is to give yourself a cooling-off period before you buy anything that you have not planned for.

When you go shopping, make a list and take only enough cash to pay for what you have planned to buy. Leave your credit cards at home.

If you see something you think you really need, give yourself two weeks to decide if it is really something you need or something you can easily do without. By following this simple solution, you will mend your financial fences and your relationships.

The same holds true for all those little knick-knacks and other “little items you pick up at the register or display as you are checking out of the store. Resist, stay true to your list and enjoy your holiday season with out worrying about the bills in January.

Come back next week for more tips and tricks to help you live the champagne life on a beer budget.

Do You Need Home Fitness Equipment?

Do You Need Home Fitness Equipment?

Ah yes the end of year is here and we all start measuring our life for the past year and look for ways to improve ourselves. It seems no matter the level of health, everyone seems to be obsessed with the state of their fitness. So what do people do? Either they shell out lots of money for health club fees or they rush out and buy fitness equipment. A lot of people get these as gifts for the holidays as well, so what exactly should one look for when buying or asking for fitness equipment?

There are a hundred lots of home fitness equipment nowadays that are sold in the market. Do not make the mistake in buying something and then regretting why you bought it after a day or two. Home fitness equipments vary and you should always have one good reason to buy it. Don't believe on everything commercials tell you about the equipment. Some equipment may seem easy to use on television but n fact will not really work for you. Try to ask yourself first of these questions before you grab your wallet and buy that equipment.

Do you need it? The equipment should suit your interests and needs. The activities that you will do with that equipment should be challenging and something to enjoy on. Buying equipment is never a guarantee that you will use it especially if it is something new that makes it harder to use. Make sure that you already know the equipment and that it is something that you already tried in a fitness club. Start from buying small equipments that are aligned to your interests.

Can you afford it? Don't be fooled with the thought that you will be forced to use something because you spent too much money for it. Expensive equipments are never an assurance that you will use them or that they are effective for you. Always consider how much are you willing to pay for certain equipment. Also ask yourself iif it is worth it. Always check on the quality before you buy equipment. The price may be too low but consider that the quality can also be low. Or it may be expensive but then the quality is not that good. You can try choosing on cheaper alternatives but not sacrificing the quality of the equipment.

You may also want to check out for some used equipments. Most of the time, this is where you find a better deal. You can even find equipments that do not seem to have been used at a very low rate. Or you can find the equipment 3 months old but the price is almost half the original.

Do you have enough space for it? This is often what buyers forget to consider. Try to consider first where to place a treadmill before buying it. Before you buy something, make sure you know where you will place it. Your place may not accommodate the equipment. Plan ahead and make sure that the equipment can be placed in your home without causing any hassle.

Is it safe for you? If you have existing conditions, be sure to check with your doctor to make sure that the equipment will be safe for you. Some equipment may be painful to use and might cause harm to your body. So make sure to try it first be fore you buy it.

It also suggested that you first consider if a gym near you already has that equipment. You can save money by just registering to that gym and use that equipment compared the price you will spend if you will buy that product.

Buying fitness equipments should be bought with consideration. Do not buy by impulse. Always ask the opinion of a professional gym instructor before you buy something.

Please remember that the best fitness equipment will do nothing if you don't use it regularly yourself. So get to it and save on those expensive club fees.

Come back next week for more tips, tricks and techniques for living a champagne life on a beer budget.
