The Survey Says....... SCAM!

The Survey Says....... SCAM!

The latest craze for making “easy money” on the net these days is the almighty Survey. I am sure a lot of you have seen these ads:

“Companies Want Your Opinion”
“Make Easy Money Giving Your Opinion”
“Share Your Opinion and Make $100s Weekly”
etc.

I have decided to investigate a few of these and found most of them to be if not downright scams, at least a bit shaky. They seem to lure one in with fast cash and quickly build the cash (or prize points) to a certain level, but one below the payout listed in the agreement. They suddenly “run out” of surveys for you to take, and after a few months of frustration you give up and they don't shell out a thing.

Others are just there to get your name on leads for companies that pay the survey company per lead so that everyone that fills out the forms and gives their opinions, well the survey site makes money and you get a few credits to your account, and then you wait. Then they start sending or offering you surveys that are for products that you have to pay to receive a “free trial” (if it is free, why are you asking for my credit card number?), which of course they are going to charge you and if you forget to cancel at some agreed time (10-14 days usually, sometimes 30), they will put you on automatic billing.

Again the survey site owner keeps getting a commission for every month someone is billed, but you the survey taker only gets taken on both ends. Unless of course it is some product or service you want, but in any case you are not getting your money back through the survey site, nor are you getting your payout.

Of course comes the bigger scams where they offer “great prizes” for redeeming points. Of course most of these set the points so high that after all the paying for “free trials”, buying products etc, one might as well have just bought the item they wanted too in the first place, it would have been cheaper and you wouldn't have a ton of unwanted services, charges and/or magazines and junk mail.

Oh yea I almost forgot about those online survey sites that require a phone number. Why if I am taking online surveys do they need a phone number? Well to sell it of course to telemarketers. You get flooded with calls, and again the site owner makes tons of money and you get to eat cold dinners and interrupted evening activities, or a full voice mailbox.

Another way they offer you to make money is to refer you friends. Of course if you get them 1,000 people they just might pay out in thank you once these friends fill out enough “free trials” and lead generating surveys to make it their worthwhile. Naturally they seem to find ways to limit the number of friends you can have and that is another way to keep from paying out.

Sure some people have claimed to make money from these, but then again maybe not as most people are too embarrassed to admit they are being taken in by these con artists.

The point is if you want to participate, go ahead, just don't expect to make money fast if at all. Be careful out there and if it is too good to be true, it probably is.

Mahalo.
